Spain and Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez have announced a four phase plan to gradually lift it's stringent Coronovirus Lockdown and return to a new normal by the end of June.

The de-escalation phase will take a minimum of 6 weeks with a maximum duration of 8 weeks with each phase lasting 2 weeks.

Phase 0

This phase has already started for some. Children have been allowed to leave the home from last Sunday, and from Monday 4th May adults will be able to exercise and take walks. The elderly will also be allowed to go out for walks. The government will shortly share a timetable when these activities can be done by different age groups.

Phase 1

Would allow the partial re-opening of small businesses under strict safety measures but not large shopping malls. This also includes the opening of hotels and tourist apartments, not including common areas and only people from the region. Cafés and restaurants will also be able to open their outdoor sidewalk sections under this phase, at 30% of capacity, but entry inside will not be permitted. Churches and places of worship will be allowed to open at 30% of normal capacity

Phase 2

Bars and Restaurants will be able to open for table service inside at 30% of normal capacity. Cultural indoor events with a limit of 50 people and outdoor cultural events with a limit of 400 people with social distancing measures in place. Cinemas and theatres will re-open at 30% capacity.

Phase 3

General movement will be made more flexible and the 30% capacity limits will be increased to 50%. Beaches and parks will reopen.

Pedro Sanchez went on to say the four phases of the de-escalation, would be gradual, asymmetrical, coordinated and with an adaptable approach. The adaptability is because we don’t know what we are facing and that is why we have to be cautious.

For the 4th day running there were no new recorded cases of the Coronavirus on Lanzarote with the active cases dropping to 29.
